From our Principal – May 25th, 2020

Kia Ora Whanau!!

Week 1 of Alert level 2 at school completed.

One of our top priorities for week 1 was the “WELLBEING” of our tamariki and staff and being able to reconnect with their kaiako and peers while practicing social distancing.

Many of our tamariki were understandably anxious and afraid and some wanted to return home because they felt they were so far behind in their learning.

Our Tamariki were reassured by our Academic and Professional staff that this “new normal” would take some time to get used to and that we would get through this together, however long it would take. They were also reminded that they were not expected to pick up where they left off before lockdown.

To help with this, our students were welcomed by our Executive Dean, Amber George, through daily online assemblies, helping them to settle in and remind them of Alert level 2 at school.

Our Senior Leadership Team along with some of our Professional staff worked under the direction of Deputy Principal, Kathryn Moore, to provide a hearty breakfast and a lunch “on the go”, just outside the school Wharekai during morning tea and lunch.

Our teachers were encouraged to reconnect with our tamariki. They also ensured that their classrooms were safe and that desks were placed at a safe distance to ensure social distancing. Thank you to our Senior Leadership Team for ensuring that each staff member received a sanitation pack and signage for each classroom and department.

Thank you to our Property Maintenance Team of Bruce and Patrick for ensuring that our school grounds were returned to a pristine state.

Thank you all again to our Tamaki College Whanau for your continued support of our rolling start in LEVEL 2 and the planned, safe return of our tamariki to Tamaki College.

For those students that are unable to attend school, we will continue to deliver classes online through our teacher created websites, Google Apps for Education and HAPARA learning management system.

Under Alert Level 2, our students onsite will continue to access their learning via teacher websites and Google meet sessions.

We thank our parents and families for continuing to support the Prime Minister’s request during Alert Level 4, 3 and now 2 where we will “Play it safe”.

It is important that all our students can continue their education. Please be assured that it is safe because we have all the public health measures in place such as social distancing, sanitizing and hand washing.

We look forward to seeing more of our tamariki return back to school.

Remember, if your tamariki are unwell, please keep them home.

If you need support with accessing devices, food or the Health Centre support Team please contact us on info@tamaki.ac.nz.

Remember Be Kind, Stay Safe, Stay Home if unwell, Play it safe and Save Lives!!
